To the editor:
So John Martin believes that John Panesko’s right-wing anti-government talk show is a local treasure.
Well, let’s talk about that.
Panesko has the market cornered on what those of us who are better informed call “low information voters” and an assortment of right-wing anti-government conspiracy buffs. I think Panesko himself pushes the conspiracy theory that Obama is buying up all the bullets so he can declare martial law and cancel the next presidential election. Check it out on my web site, kingchuck.com.
Martin brags about Panesko’s monologue. Panesko begins his show absolutely gushing over some right-wing anti-government propaganda that he claims no other news media will talk about, stuff I’ve been reading about for the last week. Or something that’s so far out there that no legitimate news source would cover it.
Martin claims that one of Panesko’s rules is to keep it local. The rule is that you can discuss national issues as long as you praise Republicans or bash Democrats. In my opinion, Panesko wouldn’t allow anyone to discuss national issues during the entire presidency of George W. Bush. But now that there’s a Democrat in the White House, it’s OK.
Another one of Panesko’s rules Martin brags about is to cite facts to support your views. Panesko is famous for citing anonymous sources to support his views.
Another rule Martin brags about is no name-calling. On my website, you will find numerous examples of when Panesko overlooked his right-wing callers calling Democrats names but immediately cutting off Democrats for the slightest little slur against a Republican.
Then Martin brags that Panesko provides a forum for local people to raise issues. Every morning Panesko tries to leave us with the impression that everybody is allowed to call in and state their views, even if they disagree with him. But we all know that’s not true. Why would a grown man lie like that?
I think Panesko banned me because he couldn’t beat us in a debate and if a caller does dare to disagree with him, he talks over them, interrupts them, tries to change their subject, calls them liars or mutes their mic so that only his view can be heard, and if all else fails, he cuts them off.
Martin claims that Panesko banned me because I wore out my welcome. As I pointed out, Panesko keeps most people who disagree with him from calling in by treating them so rudely they will never call back. But he couldn’t bully me, so he banned me from the show. Panesko banned me after the 2000 elections. I didn’t tie up his phone lines until 2003.
Finally, Martin doesn’t like the signs on the back of my truck. One caller told Panesko he should sue me. But Panesko can’t sue me for telling the truth. I support my views with documentation on my website.
Thank you, John Martin, for giving me this opportunity to express my views.
